The Cultivation of Gratitude

The concept behind Gardens of Gratitude has its roots in an ancient Mohawk Nation tradition known as the "Thanksgiving Address," also know as The Words Before All Else. The Thanksgiving Address is a way to stop, think about and thank the things that support our life in this universe. It is a powerful tool that builds a closer connection to the Earth and cultivates Gratitude for everything in it.

This Gratitude has led to the formation of Gardens of Gratitude, a weekend of growing food and community. Originally created by Devin Slavin and the Grow Food Party Crew in Ventura, CA in the fall of 2008, the Westside Permies recreated the event here last year on the streets of LA with over 96 gardens signing up and we're doing it again this year.

Gardens of Gratitude is an event created by the community for the community. Friends, neighbors & newcomers alike have all joined together in a common vision to create a more abundant world through Growing Gardens. On April 24th & 25th, we will come together to help grow food, to share stories, trade recipes, and make friends. Help us in creating more abundant neighborhoods all across the Westside.

 Who We Are

Gardens of Gratitude: 100 Garden Challenge is being organized by the Westside Permies. We’re locals and newcomers, students, professionals, laborers, cooks and bottle-washers. We do have a few coordinator positions filled by members of the community who wanted to take a more active role in turning Gardens of Gratitude into a reality. Please contact them with any specific inquiries.
